Il pilota finlandese ha trascorso cinque stagioni con la Mercedes. Si è unito alle Frecce d'Argento dopo quattro anni alla Williams come sostituto del campione del mondo 2016 Nico Rosberg. Con la Mercedes ha vinto dieci gare e ha conquistato due titoli di vice-campione. Per il 2021, la Mercedes ha deciso di richiamare il suo junior George Russell dalla Williams, e Bottas ha dovuto andarsene. Questa sarà la sua seconda stagione con l'Alfa Romeo.
